Methyl alcohol (Methanol)

A colourless liquid with a faint alcohol odour. A highly dangerous poison, the ingestion of around 5-10 ml of methanol can lead to severe poisoning (one of the consequences is blindness), ingestion of more than 80-150 millilitres of methanol (1-2 millilitres of pure methanol per kilogram of body weight) is usually fatal

Application:

Organic chemistry uses it as a solvent. The oil and gas and technical industry uses it to prevent crystalline compounds. This is due to its low freezing point.
