Octane gasoline additive — which one to choose?

Gasoline is a fuel mixture which is obtained from petroleum through refining. It has a complex composition: oil, oxygen-containing compounds, impurities and hydrocarbons, with different concentrations in each sample. In order to obtain gasoline that meets GOST standards, performance-enhancing additives are added.

One of the most important characteristics of petrol is its ability to resist self-ignition during compression, or detonation resistance. Detonation is caused by pressure from the rapid combustion of the fuel mixture. Pressure waves are reflected off the cylinder walls and piston, resulting in reduced engine power and accelerated engine wear, An indicator of detonation resistance is the octane number of the petrol. The octane number is increased by fuel additives, which are added to petrol during the production process.

Types of octane additives.

Depending on the desired characteristics of the end product, different octane additives are used. The most common ones are:

Please note that octane enhancing additives must not be used in vehicles designed to work with low octane petrol. Gasoline must be selected strictly according to the design and capacity of the engine, so that your vehicle will last a long time.
